The Learning Profile in Action

Learning Profile is how we:

-take in
-process
-express

information in an educational, professional and social setting.

 

Our Learning Profile is as distinctive and unique as our fingerprint and can and should be used to our advantage in every learning situation.

The Learning Profile consists of:

  • Taking in information by seeing it in words or pictures such as graphs, charts or diagrams; listening to it; working with it; or many various combinations of the above.
  •  

  • Thinking it through (processing it) which is how we organize the information in order to understand it and formulate our own views.
  •  

  • Expressing it which is how we use the understood information—how we demonstrate our understanding. This reflects our “smarts”, our special abilities and talents.

When our Learning Profile is at odds with another’s’, misunderstandings, hurt feelings and even anger can occur—all of which is counterproductive in any environment.

So what to do?

  • Identify individual Learning Profiles
  • Determine what works, what doesn’t work and how to get it to work
  • Benefit: This creates self awareness
  •  

  • Coach proactive self advocacy so that each individual can assertively communicate their learning needs

  • Benefit: when an individual feels understood and accepted, that individual in turn understands and accepts
  •  

  • Capitalize on each others natural inclinations and strengths
  • Benefit: this will enhance any situation

  • Identify and develop your own Learning Profile in order to achieve the results you want.
  •  

  • Understand and respect others’ Learning Profile in order to achieve the results you all want.
