About Marika.
Education is Marika’s passion! For almost two decades she worked in the education system as a classroom teacher, librarian, Special Education specialist, and resource teacher of the gifted and learning disabled. By developing classroom strategies for students with learning disabilities, Marika became an expert on learning profile preferences and their impact on effective learning. Applying her expertise to her other passion, her two children, Marika quickly discovered that a simple learning style inventory could help parents discover the most effective way to work with their children. She applied that to her two children, who were both high achievers, yet approached learning in very different ways. By working with them she solidified her belief that there is no right way or wrong way to learn, only the way that works for you!
So, as rewarding as working in the educational system was, in 2000, Marika resigned and started in private practice as a Learning Specialist. She strongly felt that children of all ability levels would benefit from her expertise.
In this capacity, she has delivered parent seminars to individual schools in her area, in Halton, Mississauga and the city of Toronto, in Ontario, Canada. As well, in Halton, she has done seminars for “Tips” for Parent Conferences and in Etobicoke for EFLEG: Etobicoke Family Life Education Group.
Marika has also been a host on community television in a program entitled “Focus”, as well as being quoted as an expert in a Toronto Star article on learning styles and profiled in the Hamilton Spectator, on two occasions, as a Learning Specialist who develops individualized strategies in order to assist students to do better in school. Currently she is on the Board of Directors of the Burlington Literacy Council.
